Sid Doherty
Broadcast Pioneers member Sid Doherty has been in broadcasting for 6 decades. In 1947, Doherty WCFC, an FM radio station at 101.3 on the dial. The city of license was Beckley, West Virginia. The station was the state's first FM radio station. The next year, during 1948, Sid was with WJLS, an AM & FM radio operation at 560 on the AM dial and 99.5 on FM. The city of license was Beckley, West Virginia. In 1951, he was "Your Esso Reporter" on WJLS Radio.
In television, Sid Doherty was at WLW-TV in Cincinnati as an anchor and news reporter. He also worked for WNAC-TV in Boston as their Sports Director and Anchor.
At WCAU-TV, Channel 10 in Philadelphia, Sid Doherty was an anchor and reporter for both news and sports. He hosted the Philadelphia Eagles pre-game show and special programs. Then he went to WPHL-TV for 15 years.
Six feet tall, he played a police officer in the motion picture "Blow Out." He also had roles in "All My Children" and "The Guiding Light."
Sid Doherty now does weekends and fill-in announcing in New York City on the ABC-TV Television Network.
